MANY apologies dear reader, my standards have been slipping in recent weeks - and seven days ago I slipped to new depths when I mentioned the ‘S’ word in this very column.

The outrage from our features supremo could be felt across the office as he reprimanded me for talking about salad - and demanded that normal service was resumed or there would be ‘consequences’.

So with my ears ringing I headed off into the wide yonder of Accrington to get back on the trail of a kebab - and decided that Follies in the town centre’s Abbey Street was the place to restore some credibility.

Follies is the sort of establishment that this column specialises in. It is the sort of place that if you strolled past you could be tempted to carry on walking.

But I am a bigger man than that and headed through the door to give them a spot of menu sampling.

A large mixed grill kebab jumped out from the menu - and that sort of dish has to be served in a naan bread.

Fearful of a repeat ticking off, I declined salad and instead went for garlic sauce to cover the red hot mix of donner, shish and chicken.

It was pretty decent too and I was delighted to take a seat in the town centre to get stuck in and watch the world go by.

Much better than a salad in fact...
