THE beauty of the cricket season — well to me anyway — means I get the chance to head to all corners of East Lancashire.

It also means, that I can discover a whole host of new takeaways, from kebab shops to curries via a few pieces of that ever-so-popular fried chicken that never quite hits the spot.

But it’s good to try something or somewhere different from time to time. People in Rossendale have told me about Haslingden’s Zorba so I had to pay it a visit when heading through the town the other day.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Given the Greek name, was I going to be greeted by smashing of plates? Would there be pictures of Anthony Quinn all over the walls?

Well, the answers were no and no —but the shop boasted a decent-sized menu and, more importantly, kebabs.

While I was tempted by the description of the Seekh Kebab (like sausage), I opted for my standard fare of a large mixed kebab.

After a few minutes’ wait the naan was ready and packed with donner meat, chicken tikka and those sausage-like seekh kebabs.

It was decent enough and the chilli sauce had a fair eye-watering kick to it and, while I couldn’t see myself eating there every day, even if I lived across the road, I have certainly had much worse.
