SIMPLE things can often offer the greatest of pleasures.

This is a statement that isn’t just limited to food. I mean, who can resists the lure of popping the bubbles in a sheet of bubble wrap? And what sort of dullard cannot enjoy the simple sound of birds chirping away?

They are two genuine pleasures that will brighten up any day, well in my world anyway.

And in Brierfield there is a takeaway that offers foodie pleasure which is not complicated but just right.

The Rau Senh has long been a favourite haunt of mine.

On the wall as you go in there is a massive menu board with some delicious sounding delights - and some Cantonese dishes that I simply haven’t heard of.

But I generally don’t need to look - or think - before I order.

It is nearly always a special fried rice, simple, cheap and filling.

Yes, I have tried other dishes but it is that one that I revert to as a stock supper. The rice is always bob on and the chicken, beef and bits of fish really do go that well that you could imagine they had grown together.

Calling in one night this week I didn’t have to think - and wasn’t disappointed when I tucked in. Still hot when I got it home, I ate it with a brew and was a happy chappy.

Now if only they would throw in some bubble wrap...
