PEOPLE assume, often with pages of evidence to back up their presumption, that I only eat kebabs and pies.
To be fair, I do dine from some of East Lancashire's best — and worst — takeaways just to keep you informed.
But there is more to my diet than kebabs and pies.
And after spending a freezing afternoon doing my core job — writing about cricket — at Clitheroe, I decided to have a change of tack.
OK, it wasn’t all about offering the readers something different, and it wasn’t based on the fact that my takeaway reviews from the Ribble Valley are on the sparse side.
This choice was down to being starving — and cold — and just down Chatburn Road from Clitheroe CC is the Ling Hu, a Chinese takeaway that had the glorious smell of fish and chips wafting up the road.
So in I dived and ordered fish and chips and plonked myself down on a wall to get stuck in.
And while you get the odd look when doing that, eating fish and chips with your fingers from the wrapper is an East Lancashire tradition — and when they are this good it is a tradition I am only too happy to uphold.
The batter was crisp, the fish was just the right side of falling apart when you ate it. Perfect — and the chips were good as well.
It filled me up and, more importantly, warmed me up . . . and that was a result.
