‘WHY don’t you ever do kebab reviews in Accrington?’ asked a colleague the other day. ‘You spread the kebab gospel in Blackburn and across Pendle but why never Hyndburn?’.

It was probably a fair question and while reviewing takeaways isn’t an exact science, a quick flick through my records – kept dutifully for the end-of-year Golden Kebab awards - I realised that it is quite some time since I delved into the food delights of Accrington.

That had to be put right so full of anticipation I headed into the town with an open mind and an empty stomach.

There is certainly no shortage of takeaways in the centre but to be honest some of them look less than appealing so I headed up Whalley Road to just past the Castle pub to Cinnamon Spice .

The menu certainly offers plenty of choice and the chef’s special Cinnamon Chilli Explosion curry appealed – but naturally I headed into the kebab section, ordering a King Kebab.

The name conjures up an idea of a giant feast – and when it arrived there was certainly plenty of it.

But size isn’t everything, as the saying goes. However it goes a long way and the King Kebab was stuffed with seekh, chicken, lamb and donner meat. And while the chicken was a tad overcooked everything went well in a naan bread, with enough salad to appease a dietician.
