“WILL you stop eating kebabs and review something different,” said one of this column’s regular readers when she harangued me in the street. “I’m amazed you aren’t always ill.”
It’s nice some people are concerned and with all the hoo-ha about horse meat and beef that may not actually come from a cow or even from an animal, you can never been certain of just what you are eating.
But always eager to please the people who after all pay my wages, I decided to have a change and went Chinese.
A quick internet search led me to Burnley Oriental Takeaway. With a name like that you could never mistake it for a fish and chip restaurant even if the prices suggested dine in rather than take out - but any price concerns were allayed when my crispy shredded beef in OK Sauce with fried rice arrived.
The beef was up there with the best I have had in such a meal and while OK Sauce is a name that always makes me laugh - if it’s that good why is it only OK? - it added a nice fruity kick.
The fried rice was also pretty good and overall the meal was almost too much to handle, even for a big lad.
Add in a bag of prawn crackers that were also fresh and crisp and I was stuffed full - and will be heading back.
* I will also be eating kebabs again, just don’t tell my concerned reader.
