A LATE-night kebab at the end of a booze-fuelled circuit of a town’s pubs is now as much part of recent British heritage as a Sunday morning fry-up.

A quick look around most town centres highlights that as takeaways seem to pop up in every block.

Some survive the test of time, others seem to disappear with the seasons.

Flames is one of the survivors — but that may be down to location rather than the actual quality of the kebabs and pizzas.

Talk about location, location, location . . . Flames is right on the route between night clubs and taxi rank and clubbers galore pile in for a feed in the weekend small hours.

I joined the throng and went for a special mixed kebab on a naan. After an intolerable wait among Burnley’s popped-up party animals, my food finally arrived and, while there was plenty of it, I have certainly had much better.

The chicken tikka and the seekh were okay, the donner meat was not and the naan tasted stale.

Hey ho, the throngs of clubbers surely can’t be wrong — although they may think again if they make a pre-drink visit.
