IF someone had said even six months ago, ‘I think I’ll pop into town for a crepe for lunch’ they would have been looked at as though they were a bit daft.
But such is the progress that Blackburn Market has made in encouraging different types of food outlets that such a thing is now possible.
For relative newcomers, it’s almost possible to eat your way around the world under one roof with all the stalls which now fill the market.
On a whim, and because I got a free taster bite, I selected Tony’s Crepes for lunch. I confess I thought crepes more French than Italian so the red, green and white signs confused me.
But there’s nothing confusing about what’s on offer. For those with a sweet tooth a variety of fruity pancakes are available.
However, I needed something savoury and a choice of either cheese and onion or cheese and tomato, though limited, was good enough.
I went for cheese and tomato and watched as my crepe was ‘built’. It’s rather like watching a plasterer finish a wall as the mixture is spread over the hot plate.
A crepe is the ultimate fast food, from start to finish it took less than a minute and at £2.50 I’d say it was decent value for money. If you’re after something different it’s a good bet.
