THE last place you would normally start searching for an oasis is the centre of an East Lancashire industrial town such as Blackburn.

It is a name that conjures up the idea of a tree-lined pool amid a desert, something exotic.

A walk down Blackburn’s Darwen Street does somewhat shatter that mirage - but there is an Oasis and it is well worth aiming for.

Kebabs from the plethora of takeaways in the town centre vary from the very good to the sometimes inedible but Oasis is a regular haunt - and a regular constant.

Popping in the other night after a late shift I fancied a change to the norm of a gigantic special kebab and instead opted for a big seek kebab in a naan wrap. Well, it’s a change.

For those that don’t know, a seek looks like a big tube and has a decent kick to it - and I was overjoyed to see two skewered into the charcoal oven while the naan was being made and cooked.

It smelled good and while I naturally declined salad - I had one of those for lunch a few days before - I went for lashings of chilli sauce on top.

It was still hot when I got home - and it was devoured, quickly as was a big bottle of water that took some of the burning away.

Well recommended.
