WHEN it comes to kebabs I reckon that I am fairly well qualified to express an opinion. For years I have been demolishing them...and not just as a post-pub feast.

I like to think I know a good kebab from one that tastes like a relative of a rat.

Whatever your personal opinion, kebabs are the comfort food for the masses...and I always relish the chance to try a new shop, or even revisit an old favourite.

One place I do enjoy returning to is Flames which may be a little bit off the beaten track, but it does proper top notch kebabs.

The busy shop in New Bank Road also offers curries, pizza and burgers. But it's kebabs that Flames does best.

And without doubt their best is the Flames Special, a naan in a box stuffed to pretty much the brim with Seek kebab, chicken tikka and donner.

Too many places dish out a substance purporting to be meat that actually tastes and smells of rubber and when you bite into it, you regret it instantly. But not at Flames.

All the meat and chicken tastes as it should and is piping hot and fresh.

They also throw in fresh salad and if you ask nicely fries are also added. For less than a fiver it is a real deal, especially with a free can of pop.

I like kebabs, I might even be biased towards my old favourite Flames...but when the food is so good who cares?
