Lancashire Telegraph review by Anna Mansell from September 18, 2010.

AMICO Mio means ‘my friend’ in Italian, and this restaurant is a friend of mine after I popped in for a week-night supper.

It looks small but there are plenty of tables — perhaps a few too many for comfort — and almost all were occupied when we arrived well after 8pm.

We were seated straight away, handed regular and specials menus and drinks orders were taken.

‘My friend’ and I weren’t going to have starters but the heavy garlic scent from a neighbouring table drew us to the bruschetta, which we decided to share, ahead of main courses penne arrabiata and spinach and ricotta tortelloni.

The bruschetta came on two plates, each with a thick slice of griddled bread smothered in fresh tomato and mozzarella chunks, all in a pesto dressing with a generous side salad — a really nice touch, rather than scrabbling over one plate.

It didn’t taste as garlicky as it had smelt, but was really tasty nonetheless.

Main courses were just the right size, and came with plenty of delicious sauce.

The tortelloni were well stuffed, in an unusual but very nice lightly creamy tomato sauce, and rounds of fresh chilli brought the arrabiata with spicy salami to life.

We were two happy girls.

A pleasant addition to the atmosphere was a keyboard player, although the volume should be turned down a touch so you’re not straining to hear your own conversation over the general buzz.

We were offered a complementary sambuca to finish the meal, but declined — it was a work night — and saw others sipping limoncello as they ended their meals.

Coming to £29.40, with a couple of soft drinks and a glass of wine, the price was good too.
