Lancashire Telegraph review by Caroline Dutton from March 11, 2009.

SATURDAY morning shopping in Clitheroe and in need of a refreshment pit-stop, we stumbled upon Cafe Caprice.

I say stumbled upon because, with no sign outside, you couldn't see it was a cafe until you were right in front of it.

But once safely in and seated we ordered off the all-day breakfast menu scrambled egg on toast and a full English breakfast, described as “The Works”, along with two cups of tea.

They weren't joking when they called it “The Works”.

When this mammoth breakfast came it had everything — and then the same again. Three rashers of bacon, two sausages, two eggs, toast, beans, mushrooms . . . and a partridge in a pear tree.

The sausages were very tasty, the fried eggs cooked to runny perfection and the bacon thick and meaty.

The scrambled egg on toast was nice, if a little over-done. I suspect it might have been cooked in the microwave rather than on the hob.

To be fair, our visit wasn't perfect, by any means. The teapot was comically leaky, as was the milk jug, and the brown sauce tasted a bit cheap.

But these things didn't really matter because the cafe had such a nice friendly atmosphere.

With a good mix of families with young children, couples, and the elderly, it was a lovely place to while away half an hour or so.

At £13.10, considering the huge breakfast, it felt like good value for money and I'd definitely go back, leaky teapot or not.

The verdict

Decent food and even better atmosphere.
