Lancashire Telegraph review by Dan Clough from February 19, 2011.

Nestled in the countryside above Oswaldtwistle, new Indian restaurant Asha is clearly visible at night from afar, thanks to the sign of its name in bright red lights.

Formerly Ye Olde Brown Cow, a popular carvery venue, and more recently Indian restaurant Usha, the eatery has only been open for just over a month.

My mum and her husband had visited on New Year’s Eve, when it had only been going for a week, and although they enjoyed the food, they said the service was poor.

I can only assume that the service my dear mother received was down to teething problems, as my companion and I could find little to fault.

We were delighted to be told that an early evening special, costing £9.95 each for selected starters, main course, rice, naan bread to share and a cup of tea or coffee, was available (Mondays to Thursdays).

With this in mind, I went for onion bhaji, followed by chicken tikka bhuna with mushroom rice, while my friend had a shish kebab and lamb rogan josh with pilau rice.

The food was excellent. Both starters were delicious and came with fresh, crisp salad, while the tasty mains were packed with fresh tomatoes and succulent, juicy meat.

As well as these dishes, which you’d expect to find in most Indian restaurants, there’s a large selection of chef’s specials, although these are not included in the early bird offer.

With the total bill coming to £25.90 for a full meal, a pint of Fosters each and a cup of tea, we were pleased.

Asha is definitely well worth a visit.
