Lancashire Telegraph review by Suzanne Geldard from May 24, 2010.

YOU know you’re in the right place when you can’t make your mind up about what to eat.

The Walton Arms certainly leaves you spoilt for choice, and that’s just deciding which of the two menus to have.

This quaint Altham pub caters for all tastes, with traditional pub grub - such as homemade cheese and onion pie, chilli (vegetarian and meat) fish and chips and sausage and mash – served in the bar area, at reasonable prices, but then there is the option to spend a bit more and treat your tastebuds in the restaurant.

On top of that, each month presents food from around the world on the specials' board. May offers a trip around the Orient Express, with dishes from Germany, Hungary, France and Austria.

We took the restaurant option and the pork loin with spiced apple crunch topping (£10.95) immediately drew my attention, and after toying with salmon salad, seabass and bockwurst/bratwurst selection off the specials’ board, that’s what I eventually ordered.

My friend took a while to pick a favourite too, but was eventually won over by the sound of salmon, fresh asparagus and hollandaise sauce (£11.25).

Both dishes came with a choice of new or roast potatoes or chips, and fresh vegetables.

We had to wait a while for our food, but it doesn't seem to matter as much when you know it’s fresh, and we were too busy talking to really notice.

The pork was a thick cut, and subsequently a little on the tough side, but nevertheless delicious and was washed down with a lovely glass of dry white wine. The salmon was large and cooked to perfection, accompanied by a good helping of chips.

Sadly, there was no room for pudding, but an extensive list of sweets and ice creams made it unbelievably tempting.
