Lancashire Telegraph review by Caroline Dutton from July 24, 2007.

FEW people are lucky enough to have a decent Indian restaurant within walking distance it seems an unwritten rule that you have to drive if you want somewhere good enough to feel like a treat.

So I wasn't expecting that much from Reena Tandoori, in Oswaldtwistle's Union Road five minutes walk from my front door.

But I was pleasantly surprised. We were seated quickly and plied with popadoms, diced onion and mango chutney while we perused the menu.

My boyfriend Andrew was keen for us to avoid the "rookie mistake" of stuffing ourselves before the main meal arrived.

But it was a good half hour before the meal arrived, by which time we'd drunk a bottle of rose and made a considerable dent in the popodom pile in front of us.

When the dishes arrived they were piping hot and well presented.

I had lamb rogan josh, which was pleasantly tomatoey, with nice fresh lamb that wasn't fatty, as it sometimes can be.

Andrew had the special mix which, as you might imagine, was a bit of everything, including prawns, chicken, tandoori chicken and meat we identified as beef which sparked a conversation about why Indian restaurants refer to beef as simply "meat".

Both meals were delicious, hot, but not too hot.

My only criticism was that customers were packed in so tightly the waiter kept banging the back of my chair.

The curry house doesn't have a bar licence but you're invited to take your own.

The bill came to a reasonable £19.40. A tenner spent on two bottles of wine meant a good night out that didn't break the bank.
