WALKING into The Bull’s Head gave me quite a shock.

The refurbishment has turned the popular bar into a classy joint.

If, like me, you haven’t been for more than 10 years, the bar has now gone all contemporary but still manages to be inviting and cosy.

The decor looks great, with a clean and crisp finish and effective lighting.

It is definitely worth a visit to Wilpshire’s popular bar even if you aren’t eating. You can take advantage of the cocktail menu and wine list.

These are appealing, with tastes and prices from £11.95 and £21.50. We went for the Pinot Grigio, which is priced somewhere in between.

Because it was a celebration we had some fizz, a nice bottle of Prossecco and at £3.75 a glass, it works out cheaper to buy the bottle.

We were there for Sunday lunch.

The dishes we went for were a la carte, two courses for under £12.

To start I ordered smooth chicken liver parfait, served with red onion marmalade and warm toast. It was light and moreish but left you anticipating for your main. For me the main was a beef dinner.

Nothing like your mum would make but still, it was delicious.

For those who are big eaters the brasserie menu has much more to offer, sausage of the week and a selection of steaks. Bigger portions come with a bigger price but they are still reasonable and if you’re still hungry, extras are £2 each and desserts are £5.

Although I was with the girls, I could easily return with my family. Children are catered for.

The atmosphere is good, the service was pleasant and the food came out hot and fresh — what more could you want?
