Report: Lancashire Telegraph Christmas Carol Service 2010

A THOUSAND people crammed into Blackburn Cathedral last night for the annual Lancashire Telegraph Christmas Carol Service.

After a spectacular 30-minute firework display in the cathedral grounds, the night of celebration got underway with musical accompaniment from The Salvation Army and the Cathedral Choir.

Dean Christopher Armstrong started the service with a joke which had been sent in by a member of the cathedral congregation, before leading prayers for the homeless, the unemployed, the bereaved and 'countries set against each other by Wikileaks'.

The Rev Philip Biggs and Canon Sue Penfold also gave readings, as did Nick Nunn, assistant editor of the Lancashire Telegraph.
