There is no scarcity of halal dining venues in Blackburn, so it will take something special for a new restaurant to stand out and be a success.

Ambience Fine Dining in Montague Street, Blackburn is a family run restaurant whose unique selling point is a simple one - the owners have created the kind of restaurant they would like to go to themselves.

Manager of Ambience, Zunaide Mulla, said: “The first thing we checked when we looked at the building was if we could have an adequate prayer facility.
“We hired a designer specifically for the prayer room. We wanted to create a contemporary vibe that appeals to families.

“We don’t play music, only nasheeds which is a factor that appeals to many of our clients.

“We also have a dining area upstairs that is exclusively for women who wear hijab and niqab. That allows them the freedom to enjoy an evening out without worrying about ‘purdah.’

“We also have a special area designated for family functions. We recently hosted an event for 190 ladies and we have our first wedding next month.”

Ambience, opened in January this year, is run by a family team, Liyakat Mulla, Salim Mulla, Mubeen Mulla and Zunaide Mulla.

Zunaide said that whilst the family worked with the chef to create a bespoke menu, his own children influenced facets of the dishes on offer.

“Our signature dish is the Desi Gosht on the bone which is a 1kg dish. The Garlic Chilli Chicken and Butter Chicken are very popular too.

“We have also incorporated an authentic Chinese section in the menu which has proven to be a huge hit with customers.

“We want the dining experience to be enjoyed by all our customers and this includes children, which is why we took special care over the children’s menu.

“I designed the children’s menu with my own kid’s palate in mind.

“In fact my 8-year-old son watches the chef prepare the children’s chicken tikka to ensure it matches his standard!”

Ambience will be closed throughout Ramadan, but will facilitate a takeaway option for iftari three days a week from 5-7pm, offering traditional dishes.
