An Eid in the Park event is to return later this month after the first one proved so popular.

In July Corporation Park hosted Eid Prayers and a family fun day attracted hundreds of people from across the town.

Similar events took place across the country. The event is organised by the Eid in The Park Committee, a local community group.

Traditionally, many people go to their local mosque to say Eid prayers but prayers have been said in central locations and open spaces in many countries.

The festival will be celebrating Eid-Ul- Addha which marks the end of the Hajj.

A spokesperson for the event said, “After the success of the first Eid in the park we were encouraged to organise the event again for the second festival of the year.

“The festival will celebrate the diversity of the Muslim community through its culture, food, arts and entertainment.

“It will be free with a range of stalls, fun-fair attractions and entertainment appealing to all ages, an ideal way of building community spirit and encouraging neighbourly interactions in a relaxed, friendly environment.

“All are included, none are excluded. Young and old, male and female, regardless of ethnicity or race, or affiliation to a particular masjid.”

The Festival will include: Eid Prayers to begin the Festival; Activities for Children such as Bouncy Castle and Giant Slide, Fun-Fair attraction; Family activities such as Face Make-up, Henna painting, Crafts; Marque containing stalls providing Clothes, Books, Jewellery etc.;Food stalls serving healthy foods, Cakes, Sweets and Nasheed / Quranic recitation competitions for children The Committee is hoping to hold the Eid in the Park Festival at Corporation Park, Blackburn on, Wednesday 23, or Thursday 24 for Eid prayers.

A specific date will be confirmed nearer the time as and cannot be set due to the lunar calendar.
