AN EID in the Park event is being planned to celebrate the end of Ramadan.

The festival of Eid is likely to take place next Friday or Saturday as the holy fasting month of Ramadan comes to an end.

As well as a range of whole host of fun activities for the family morning prayers will be read at the park itself.

Traditionally, many people go to their local mosque to say Eid prayers but prayers have been said in central locations and open spaces in many countries.

A statement from the organisers reads: “All are included, none are excluded. Young and old, male and female, regardless of ethnicity or race, or affiliation to a particular masjid.

“This is the practice of the Prophet, Peace be upon him. During the time of the Prophet, (peace be upon him), Madina had more than five mosques.

“The Prophet (PBUH) would gather all the Muslims outside in an open area to hold the Eid prayers. This was so that the symbols of Islam should be manifested.

“The Muslims would express their unity and oneness and increase their sense of community and togetherness.”

It continued, “The park will host prayer facilities for both men and women, so women should make a special effort to attend and need not feel excluded.

“It will be a day of joy and celebration. Funfairs and joy rides, food stalls, bouncy castles and other fun activities will be there all day, so you can bring the entire family and make Eid really, really special.”

The ground will be covered with water proof material. Organisers say people should bring their own prayer mats with prayers beginning at 8am.
