THE founder of the UK’s largest chain of traditional barber shops is celebrating their first anniversary in Blackburn.

The art of traditional barbering is currently undergoing a mighty resurgence, but a little known fact may be that a Blackburn-born barber is leading the current revival.

Adam Choudhry, the founder of Kings Barbers Club, was born in Blackburn and his Blackburn shop is the only one of his 14-strong chain to be located outside of the Midlands area.

Located on King William Street, the shop has been styled to represent the age of traditional barbering.

Inside there are traditional Belmont barber chairs and images of sporting icons adorning every wall.

Not forgetting the traditional red and white barber’s pole that was usually used to signify the presence of a barbers shop.

“Blackburn was always going to be the first location for the first shop outside of Birmingham”, says Mr Choudhry.

“Blackburn is a great place to start a business, as can be seen by the number of small businesses that have opened recently and have benefited from the renovation in and around the town centre.

“Kings Barbers Club has been warmly welcomed in the town and has many regular customers who love the idea of the traditional barber.”

The Kings Barbers specialise in all aspects of male grooming, as well as the art of cut throat shaving.

They also regularly demonstrate their expertise in hair types from all around the world, including European, Asian and Afro-Caribbean.

“Kings Barbers Club shops are family-friendly environments where both men and boys can come and get their hair cut by a traditional barber”, he adds.

He said to celebrate their first anniversary, Kings Barbers Club will be pricing all haircuts at £9.00 for the next two weeks.
