SHAH Rukh Khan and Kajol reunited to celebrate a milestone for their iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

They were both at Yash Raj Films Studio in Mumbai before attending a grand screening at the Maratha Mandir where the film has been running for 1000 weeks since its release on October 19, 1995.

The celebration continued with the unveiling of the special coffee table book written by Aditya Chopra, about the making of DDLJ: Aditya Chopra Relives Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge as told to Nasreen Munni Kabir.

The book, is a very personal story of this phenomenally popular film that turned the tide of Hindi cinema in the 1990’s and has rightfully earned pride of place among the most successful and acclaimed Indian films of all time.

Shah Rukh said on stage: “People should watch the film because it has realities that are true for this era.

“The film says it is cool to be Raj and Simran while maintaining our Indian-ness and culture.

“It’s been 20 years for this film and I feel honoured that I was part of this film. It’s been 100 years of Indian cinema and I would say one-fifth of it belongs to DDLJ.”

He added how it was great Kajol could pick and choose her projects, “I think perhaps one of the biggest gifts that an actor can have is that he or she can do a film when they feel like doing it, like Kajol does.”

“I think God has been kind to her — a marriage, two babies now, and having done some really wonderful films…(she has) been responsible for some of the nicest films that I have done. But to still be in a position where you know you will do it if you feel like it is a great place to be in.”
