It is quite rare Pakistani cinema gets as much attention as its Indian counterpart. Pakistani blockbuster and award winning film, Chambaili – The Fragrance of Freedom, will be opening at Blackburn’s Vue cinema today.

The Blackburn Vue is one of just 21 locations handpicked to screen the film throughout the UK.

Directed by Ismail Jiliani, and written and produced by the multi-award winning Shahzad Nawaz, Chambaili – The Fragrance of Freedom is a thought-provoking thriller.

A tale of courage, romance and sacrifice, Chambaili tells the story of a group of young friends driven to action by the political unrest and corruption that grips their colony, and ultimately their country.

Led by desperation to the crossroads of fate, these friends embark on a journey that will transform the future of their disillusioned homeland.

Confronted with danger at every turn, and faced with threats, arrests, cynicism and rejection, this group of friends continue to fight for a better future by establishing their own political movement, Chambaili Tehreek.

Inspired by Pakistan’s turbulent political history, Chambaili is fuelled by the belief that the Pakistani people have never lost hope, and must use their vote to change the course of history.
