YOUNG artists with hopes of becoming the latest recruit for Pixar or Dreamworks are being urged to sign up for a new animation project.

The hunt for the next Matt Groening, of Simpsons fams, or even Walt Disney, is beginning at Burnley Central Library on August 15.

Professional animator Kelly Fort and comedy writer John Warburton will be helping the teenage talents to create a short film promoting the benefits of the library service across the UK.

The crew will be working out of the Grimshaw Street library’s new teenage base, The Crib, based in the former Stocks Massey music library.

Kelly said: “This is a great opportunity for young Burnley people to exercise their creative abilities on a live project and get an insight into the one of the career options afforded by the BBC’s relocation to the north west.”

The animation expert herself has already put her own faith in the Media City experience, having relocated there recently from her base in Burnley.

Recruits for the week-long course must be aged 13 to 19 and can apply by downloading the application forms from the borough council’s website.

County council arts developments officers and the BBC Outreach programme have provided financial support.

Elsewhere staff at The Crib are also supporting a dance week, from August 8 to 12, which will be staged at Burnley Mechanics.

Dance development officer Anthony Briggs will be working with young people to create an original ‘flash mob’ dance performance for the town centre.
