A BURNLEY designer transformed waste paper from the library into a fashion collection for an exhibition.

Carrie-Ann Kay used the paper from the library for the Flick My Lit exhibition, which was inspired by ‘heroes and heroines of classic English literature’.

The collection included dresses, skirts, corsets and origami inspired garments, all based on the most fashionable of literature’s heroines.

Carrie-Ann, the designer behind label Rene K, has a base in Burnley’s Standish Street.

She said: “The project has had to be kept under wraps for some time whilst we brainstorm, design and develop the paper garments with the help of local fashion and literature students.

“It has been the most exciting time and without a doubt, the most challenging project we have worked on in our career to date.”

Fashion and literature students at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form Centre helped with the ideas and held workshops to brainstorm ideas and designs.

The exhibition was unveiled to the public on Sunday at Burnley Central Library.

As well as the fashion element, it also incorporated music and art, with talented artists from local areas invited to take part.
