THOUSANDS of pounds of cash is up for grabs across East Lancashire in the latest round of grant-giving from a major charity.
Money is being made available to worthy causes by the Gannett Foundation, the charitable arm of Gannett Co Inc, owner of News-quest Media Group, whose titles include the Lancashire Telegraph.
The Foundation supports projects which take a creative approach to fundamental issues such as education and neighbourhood improvements, economic and youth development, local problem-solving, assistance to disadvantaged or disabled people, environmental conservation and cultural enrichment.

Typically awards made are between £5,000 and £10,000 but the Foundation will also entertain more modest applications, and actively encourages imaginative and ambitious projects on a bigger scale.
In recent years awards include £21,750 to kit out Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team with weatherproof clothing, a new specially-adapted minibus for Sue Ryder Care at Bamber Bridge, funding for a churchyard renovation scheme in Nelson and the fitting out of a children’s sensory room at the Royal Blackburn Hospital .
To qualify, applicants must be registered charities.
Grants will be aimed at helping specific projects and not be given to fund general appeals, salaries or general running costs.Applications will only be considered if submitted on the official UK Gannett Foundation form which can be downloaded at www.lancashiretelegraph.
