On Wednesday 10th December St Mary’s College presented a Youth Dance Festival showcasing dancers from the across East Lancashire. Several dance groups performed to a packed audience followed by mulled wine and mince pies to end the evening.
St Mary’s very own Dance Academy participated in the event and will perform two works, one choreographed by Anthony Briggs, from Ludus, and another choreographed by a trained dancer from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Samantha Allen.
Anthony’s piece, called ‘Free 4 All’ and is about the advances of modern technology and ‘connectivity’ and sometimes because of this, we cannot be further apart from one another.
Samantha’s dance, titled ‘Passers By’ explores all the people you come face to face with in everyday life and the reactions and inter-reactions that occur. This dance will also be in the running to perform at U Dance at The Lowry and if selected, like in previous years, The Royal Festival Hall, London.
The programme for the Festival also included choreography by dancers from Blessed Trinity RC High School, Our Lady and St John Catholic Arts College, BwD Youth Company and Ludus Youth Dance Company.
