Chris Keates, General Secretary of the National Association of Schoolmasters and union of women teachers, said she believed Ofsted should be completely independent. The call came after the inspecting body released a report entitled ‘The most able students: Are they doing as well as they should in our non-selective secondary schools?’ Mrs Keates said: “Teachers and parents deserve an inspectorate which is truly independent and which celebrates the achievements of teachers and pupils, rather than denigrating them at every opportunity. The report highlights the increasing politicisation of Ofsted.”
