A 76-year-old man was the victim of an unprovoked attack by two young yobs as he sat in a car, police said.

The man, who was with two other men at the time, is now receiving hospital treatment after allegedly being punched and kicked.

Police said that all three suffered injuries after being attacked in Melville Drive, Blackburn, on Saturday night.

Det Sgt Keith Rimmer said that the trio were in a car in the road when they were approached by two drunken men.

They shouted abuse at the men before punching and kicking all three, he said.

DS Rimmer said that the 76-year-old suffers from a chest complaint, which has led to him being kept in Royal Blackburn Hospital for checks.

He said: "This was an unprovoked assault on three men who were on their way home after an evening out."

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at around 10.45pm, to come forward.

To contact police call 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Two men, aged 19 and 18, have been arrested and questioned in connection with the incident and have been bailed by police pending further inquiries.

This report is completely wrong as the man who was attacked is my grandad what happened was my grandad came out his house to see what all the noise was about and the two men went straight for him and viciously attacked him as he was knocked unconcious to the floor. that is the real story not this one that is posted.

Have you made a statement to the police then?!

These pigs need flogging, not bail and a slap on the wrist.
This country is witnessing the growth of a violent underclass; if nothing is done, this sort of mindless thuggery will continue.
