BURNLEY manager Owen Coyle will NOT be making a summer move for Sun Jihai.

Reports yesterday claimed the Manchester City defender was high on the Clarets' shopping list.

But Coyle has rubbished any links with the 30-year-old Chinese international, who has been at Eastlands since 2002.

Speaking to the Telegraph, the Burnley boss said: "I don't know where those stories have come from.

"I've certainly not spoken to Manchester City or Sun Jihai. I'm looking for good players to bring to this football club, and there will be an element of one or two of them being of a more experienced type.

"But where possible, I'm looking to bring younger legs into the football club.

"Within that, some are going to cost the club money, and I've already put things in motion."

Coyle held preliminary talks with Andrew Cole's FROM BACK PAGE representatives over the weekend, but said it was too early to report any progress.

The manager also expects to get decisions from the four players - David Unsworth, Jay Rodriguez, Brian Jensen and James O'Connor - he has offered new contracts to.

Coyle said: "I'm expecting to hear from them all from the middle to the end of next week."

Meanwhile, the problematic Turf Moor pitch will be undergoing major surgery this summer to try to resolve three problem areas.

The diggers moved in this week to unearth three large patches that have been a major headache for ground staff throughout the season.

The hope is that once this work is complete, the worst affected areas should have better drainage to limit the risk of previous postponements caused by unrelenting rain in the hours approaching kick off.

Stadium manager Doug Metcalfe said: "It has been well documented that we have issues with our current stadium pitch, even though we did not lose any games on it last season.

"Because of that, we are focusing on the three main problem areas, namely the goalmouth at the cricket pitch end and the two wet areas adjacent to the home and away dug outs.

"They have literally been excavated down to the sand base and we are performing a full reconstruction in those areas.

"The rest of the pitch will undergo the normal renovation work and we are hoping to see some real benefit from the three problem areas."

I understand that but Burnley need all the money they can get. Remember Burnley nearly going out of the league against Orient????? We do not want to be in that situation again. Where have all the fans gone from yesteryear???? We have a good manager on board, but if you do not have funds available to play with then there is not alot Coyle can do.
What fans of yesteryear? you had gates of less then 5000 when you were going out of the league.

And No they cant, coz we talk more sense then you clowns.

Have to agree wi Straight talker, it just seems to me that this board and now manager are mugging Clarets supporters off. Flood is tighther than a ducks ar$e, never hear a word from old Kilbers? It is my opinion that Coyle is told what to tell the LOYAL SUPPORTERS, to try to encourage some tickets sales. I have watched Burnley home and away for 15 years now, though until THEY start spending, I ain't spending on a new ticket, not interested in 33+ year old scots who are on Freemans. It's time to spend on players or face the revolt that Mr TEASDALE endured which I predict will happen before Xmas if things don't change. And can LET not bar bluenwhite from the Clarets pages and the rest of his inbred rawwvvverrrs goons? Come on Burnley!!

Right, I appreciate the comment, but I don't see how this will help - lets do the sums........

So, assume an average gate of 10,000, and the average cost of a season ticket is £300 - so, the club have approx 5000 season ticket holders, so if the remaining 5,000 bought a season ticket, that would give Coyle an additional budget of 5,000 x £300, which equals £1.5 million.
How would this help, when the likes of Birmingham, Derby, Wolves, etc, will have a lot more money to spend.
Sorry, but my money is staying in my pocket until I see some proper investment in the team - when I pay my money, its to watch what is happening on the pitch. I am not interested in what the stands look like, or whether we have a bowling alley, therefore, I am not funding that project by going on the Turf.

Call me fickle, but, i'll be aving my money next season!

Why? Are they putting a new roof on the stadium?
Who organised the fixture list of pre-season matches? 6 games in 11 days and a spell of 3 games in 4 days!! Great planning - let's just hope we have a big enough squad by that time to cope.
