    Hughes confident of keeping Bentley

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes remains confident David Bentley will sign a new contract with the club, despite speculation linking the midfielder with a summer move to Liverpool.

He said: "We've said time and time again that we're not a selling club. We've got contract prot-ection with David and like I said, we don't have to sell."

Great to hear! I think it's probably the case that bents will only go if the deal is right for Rovers (and him) - if a Champs Lge club comes in with an amount that we can't refuse, surely we'd look at it different? The contract does give us great protection with all this, so its great business once again be Rovers!

Alan Hansen seems determined to sell Bentley to a top four club - he should stick to the Domestos and deep pan pizzas in his Morrisons trolly and leave us alone.

The ultimate test was Shearer even when JW refused to sell and tried everything bar chaining him to Ewood. All we can do is hope Bents signs new contract which ensures we get good fee to reflect progress he has made here. That said I think he is young enough to give Sparky two more years here to see where we go with some cash to spend at last this summer.

    My thinking exactly Morst.

Bents should at least stay for another season to give MH a chance to get us into the top six(or dare I say it top 4!!)

I feel that MH(if anyone) will be able to keep him here.
Hughes was on Sky Sport this morn re-iterating just what Bents as at BRFC & that he (Bents) is well happy with that.

I know we can never say never but the omens look good.
My feeling is that he will stay unless 'every player as his price' situation rears it's ugly head....Here's hoping.....

    PS Any sightings yet?

bloody hell get the flags out and sound the trumpets.
its 'celebration time' (kool and the gang) morst and i seemingly agree on something at last.
at least it seems like he doesnt have any 'get out' clauses or 'triggers', so if hughsie can get his silver tongue to do the business hopefully we will see him down ewood for a good few more seasons.

    KEEP THE FAITH

Yeap. me too! Bent's comes across as a pretty level headed laddo and I honestly think that he will stay put for the time being anyway, after all he has got into the England team playing for the rovers so there is no reason there to move on.
If he marched off to Liverpool then he would fall into the rotation system and I for one am not a fan of this. I don't pretend to know much about fitness levels etc but to me the more first team football a player plays (with the exception of burn-out) the fitter and more importantly "SHARPER" a player becomes (Big Jas is a good example)so if a player only players one in every two or three etc then surely he is not as match "sharp" as he (or she!) could be.
    Anyway, thart's my pennith worth.

I believe Bent's will stay, he said he loved the club. He's a great midfielder with huge talent. If he goes i'll miss his celebrations.

Ossy - it's only because sometimes you are like "The Black Knight" from Pythons's Holy Grail. Keep the faith by all means but sometimes we have to be a teeny wee bit critical you know. Especially when the board / trust are stashing all the cash away and not giving it to MH as required! Anyway Ossy thought we agreed about low prices by law for all fans - I see Accy Stanley are catching on - £20 concessions season ticket and £9 adult matchday walk on - they all catch up with me eventually!!!

the truth is that Bentley has not said he WANTS to stay.
He said he loves it here but not that he wants to stay!
Just like sparky did when he had an eye on the Newcastle job.
Even if he signs a deal it will be a leaving gesture to the club signing a deal with us to make the offer for him huge!
Bye Bents thanks for the memories

I can't agree that Bentley will still be a Rovers player come next season. Its common knowledge that Capello as already suggested that he and his agent finds a higher profile club that plays regular Champion league football to enhance his profile at international level.Santa Cruz will probably not be far behind him either.Unfortunatley

,its a fact of life but we are not big enough to be able to offer top players the opportunities that Bigger, wealther clubs can.Why do you think the club is restructuring the academy to try to filter more home grown talent through to the first team squad. We just can't compete financially anymore.
