Police slam defendants' parents

Police today slammed the defendants' 'disrespectful' parents for laughing and joking at times during the investigation into Sophie Lancaster's murder.
After today' verdict, Det Supt Mick Gradwell, senior investigating officer at Lancashire Police, said that when Brendan Harris was initially interviewed about the assaults he was "laughing and joking" with his mother.
"The interviewing officer had to speak to Harris's solicitor to make sure they knew the gravity of the situation because they were laughing and joking.
"The general attitude of the defendants' parents during the whole process has been appalling.
"Sophie's mother also commented to us that the three defendants who were convicted of assaulting Robert Maltby were sniggering at her outside court before the start of the trial."
Det Supt Gradwell added: "I do not think Ryan Herbert and Brendan Harris have recognised how violent the attack was. There was no reason for it.
"They have just done it without thinking but they have seemed to have enjoyed it and carried on remorselessly kicking at two very defenceless people who were unable to protect themselves because of the level of violence inflicted upon them.
"Their behaviour that night was that they were doing what they wanted with their parents doing nothing about it or not knowing about it. There was a total lack of parental control.
"I am very critical of some of the parents involved. I really don't think they have taken completely seriously how repulsive this incident was."

If they did this to Sophie's Mum what about any prosecution witness's? If this is the case after doing a brilliant Job Lancashire Constabulary at getting these scum bags convicted any chance of charges of Witness Intimidation please?

there is alot of trouble on Thompson Park at weekends with local rival gangs known as S.T.B or The D.B.K and Rake Head Youths the 'D.B.M' .. this trouble has to stop as riots are happening every weekend! do something about it government. Burnley is a riots torn place.

These subhumans and their families need to be exterminated. It's a sad fact that such creatures are amongst the most fecund members of the population. This is presumably because all they can think of to do after spending their giros on drink, fags and drugs is to copulate with each other. I have found this case extremely harrowing. Surely these people should locked up with the criminally insane. They're quite mad.
And from all accounts the parents should have been locked up long before they were able to breed these animals.

I have known both the mother and father of this little piece of scum for longer than I care to remember! and do not associate myself with them social or otherwise, the father is nothing but a thug and a bully,and the mother seems to have an alcohol dependency!
and it,s no suprise that either is able to empethise with sophie or her grieving family,in fact I,m sure that both parents imparticular the father will be quite proud that his son is doing life for murder,however niether parent will make any attempt to visit there little killer whilst held at her majestys pleasure.

I hope the community that knows the parents of these low life scum have the decency to seek rough justice on them, they should be hounded day and night until they realise what they have created and the scum bags they truly must be themselves, the Government of this country is weak and does not care about the average hard working citizens and the scum that lives near them. The MP's are too busy furnishing their second homes with Tax payers money and living the life of subsidised luxury far away from the real world!

Lazy, cruel, indolent scum is breeding all over estates in every part of Britain, living on the taxpayers money and creating havoc with other people's lives.
The Government and the courts seem hell bent on protecting the rights of this feral class;it is time for the people to say enough.
Build more prisons, and make the bastards work, preferably at hard labour, while they are incarcerated.

it broke my heart seeing pictures of a beutiful young girl dying.a nice friendly couple having a walk and for that to happen to them both,and for sophies mother to be sniggered at in court,in this case the parents are defo to blame,they are scum of the earth.the parents need to know that they are scum.there probs in there home now geting bevvied up and what other stuff they do thinking that they are un touchable not even giving a thought what familys have been torn apart by the murder of sophie,god bless you sophie your family and friends.i really hope something can be done to stop it happening again.

They were not armed, but would be forced forward by their commisars and used for suicide missions, such as mine-field clearance. Firstly my condolences to Sophies family & to Robert at this horrific time.
I couldn't help but bring this song to the attention of this hideous crime.
For youngsters like me in the late 70's an explosion happened that was - PUNK.
To say it gave me a conscious is an understatement esp a social one......
For the likes of myself who came from a disfunctional family eg no mother,alcoholic father & only a grandma to look over me life could have gone either way?
Thankfully something came along to explain the ways of this world & it most certainly wasn't Goverment & politicians who had begun to be exposed for just what it is-self serving..
This band(who I looked up to) began creating music with a differance,with social & political questioning at the forefront(seeing as the political system had shafted more or less everyone).
When I first read of this tragedy I couldn't help but fit these two songs into this...

I would like to place a wager on this page. The parents of this utter scum bag are definately going to get what in my opinion is their just deserts!
There is just one problem here, they WILL SUE THE POLICE once they have been targeted for failing to protect THEIR human rights and outing them as irresponsible parents! Its just a shame that the police can't divulge this information on all the known paedophiles living amongst us - for exactly the reason that they were wrong to divulge this information to the press and public - THEY WILL BE HOUNDED, THEY WILL GET BEAT UP AND THEY WILL MOVE HOUSE INTO ANOTHER ESTATE and make other people's lives a misery!
I am all for "justice" but whoever does seek revenge here will end up being the one punished and i for one know **** well that if this was my daughter, i would leave no stone unturned in making this entire family suffer horrendous blatant suffering of a certain kind even movies couldn't reproduce!! I would like to place a wager on this page. The parents of this utter scum bag are definately going to get what in my opinion is their just deserts!
There is just one problem here, they WILL SUE THE POLICE once they have been targeted for failing to protect THEIR human rights and outing them as irresponsible parents! Its just a shame that the police can't divulge this information on all the known paedophiles living amongst us - for exactly the reason that they were wrong to divulge this information to the press and public - THEY WILL BE HOUNDED, THEY WILL GET BEAT UP AND THEY WILL MOVE HOUSE INTO ANOTHER ESTATE and make other people's lives a misery!
I am all for "justice" but whoever does seek revenge here will end up being the one punished and i for one know **** well that if this was my daughter, i would leave no stone unturned in making this entire family suffer horrendous blatant suffering of a certain kind even movies couldn't reproduce!! this will be my second comment on this forum,and having read each and every one..one thing is without doubt,a strong feeling of culpability,with regards to the parents of these killers! it brings into the debate wether laws should be put in place to bring the parents of children accused of serious crime,before the courts to ask many probing questions!and to make the parents share some responsibility for there childrens actions.I believe harris had only appeared in court for violent conduct prior to the stubylee park attack,I would have thought a night time curfew for young thugs
a far better solution that namby pamby cso or a supervision order! keep them of the streets after school! deny them the chance to make peoples lives a misery,that will hurt them far more than slap on the wrist punishments currently handed out by the courts. I would like to point out that the vast majority of kids are well behaved and other than normal childhood high jinks and pranks (we were all kids once)are law abiding and pose no threat to society as a whole.it,s only the tiny minority that commit these vile and inhumane acts on the likes of sophie and rob.

Re : the tags .....I don't know it it's true , but if so, why was it not working? I have seen people out in Bacup (during the day) , wearing clothes that expose their tags , therefore, it is a " badge of honour" . These people ( if you can call them that ) have no shame whatsoever.
As for Human Rights ........it has gone way too far for the wrongdoers instead of the victims, as we all know.
As for Thatcher's government being to blame, it's the laid back Labour lot who encourage these louts to not work and breed more vermin.There is no incentive to go to work . You are more or less financially better off if you don't work !

I am as outraged as anyone, deeply sickened and saddened by this tragedy but this kind of appalling reporting can do more harm than good. Did they really expect the mothers to speak to them? I doubt it, but they just used anything they could to create a bit of drama. We have to remember this is our communities tragedy, it is our home and we shouldn't be lead by the gutter press who's main objective is profit. This brutal attack on Rob and Sophie is no doubt amongst the most tragic events to happen in bacup, the media should be lead by us and inparticular Rob and Sylvia and other close family members, they are suffering a deeper loss than anyone and they and the people of bacup should lead the way forward from this not the press.
