    Vogel set for Rovers debut

Johann Vogel could make his Blackburn debut on Saturday after finally receiving international clearance.

The 31-year-old has now been cleared to play in the Premier League and manager Mark Hughes has hinted he could feature in some capacity against Reading at the weekend.

"By all accounts it (international clearance) came through late on Tuesday, so we're delighted with that, and he is available for selection," confirmed the Rovers chief.

"He has trained well this week, as he always has done since he walked through the door, so he could come into the equation.

"A little bit of a concern, though, is that he's not had any games of late, but I know if I did involve him he wouldn't let us down."

Skipper Ryan Nelsen could also play a part for the first time since January after coming through a reserve match unscathed.

The Kiwi international, who has been struggling with a tendon injury, has trained all week with the first team and could replace the suspended Chris Samba.

However, Brett Emerton is still battling to shake off a groin problem.

Vogel to make his debut againts Reading sounds great. A player with a lot of experience would definately boost up the team spirit.

Why not let Ryan get a litle fitter before risking him being injured again come next August. Whats at stake? maybe an Intertoto slot.....WOW. This season we started onfire but given that the following few months we were poor maybe that says we are too overstreched to cope. Who actually gives a shut about the EUFA Cup anyway. Not Cardiff, West Brom, Barnsley or the prem team involved, day out in Instanbul getting stabbed or win the FA Cup, which one would you want??

shut up you idiot. we al want to plalay in europe. sparky has already admitted it attracts a better class of player and bentley has hinted that he needs to be playing european football. and if nelsen is fit why not play him. has sparky let us down in his decision making? god your a moron

at £0.5M per league position its in our interests to finish as high as possible regardless of a european place.
hughsie sees vogel as the guy to sit in front of the back four, if it stops the soft goals we keep conceding then it can only be good.
heres hoping for a win on saturday.

Easy for you to say Barry, as you're dodging the ping pong balls & advances of the ladyboys, but for most sane people a UEFA/INTERTOTO spot is a measure of success. Look at the calibre of teams who's applied for the Toto - Portsmouth, Everton, Man City, Rovers and others - all with hopes of a top six finish. Ideally they would be hoping for UEFA run, but sound of mind enough to cover that by applying for Toto.

For folk that actually go to games, it's also a welcome diversion from domestic life to get a few days away on a beano - managed to go to G-bigli for instance and not get stabbed, as your sweeping generalisation suggests.

What on Earth are you talking about? Surely we want to finish as high up in the league as we can, regardless of whether we end up in Europe or not? Otherwise, what is the point of taking part in the league, why bother to mention that we 'started on fire' if it doesn't matter?

It would be nice to win the FA Cup. But unfortunately, we can't this season. And Cardiff care enough about the UEFA Cup to appeal against the FA's decision not to let them enter should they win the FA Cup.

As regards Nelsen, it may be preferable to let him rest longer, but with Emerton injured and Samba suspended, we're a little short of PL standard defenders. So if he's deemed fit enough to play, he has to be used.

oh well its fri morn had to make do with the news on radio lancs and the morning rags.
according to RL santa doubtfull for tomorrows game thats a blow (but not a surprise), but we should have enough in the tank to beat reading, but as they say no easy games in the prem.
hughsie coming out and saying bents is not for sale in some of the morning rags, we know he has to say it, but its still good to hear.
bents himself (with the assistance of his agent no doubt) will decide when its time to go.
the good news is that he doesnt seem to have any 'get out' clauses in his contract.

ossy, know what you mean re bents, but he'll only be going if it's right for the club, wont he, thats the benefit of the long contract. If he goes anywhere, i reckon it will be Spain/Italy - like hughsey, I think he sees that step as a great way of developing, plus theres only Liverpool of the top 4 he can go to really...will he want to go there?

jeppo agree entirely on all points

Yeap. me too! Bent's comes accross as a prettly level headed laddo and I honestly think that he will stay put for the time being anyway, after all he has got into the England team playing for the rovers so there is no reason there to move on.
If he marched off to Liverpool then he would fall into the rotation system and I for one am not a fan of this. I don't pretend to know much about fitness levels etc but to me the more first team football a player plays (with the exception of burn-out) the fitter and more importantly "SHARPER" a player becomes (Big Jas is a good example)so if a player only players one in every two or three etc then surely he is not as match "sharp" as he (or she!) could be.
    Anyway, thart's my pennith worth.
