Your guide to Hoddlesden
HODDLESDEN is a village east of Darwen and is within the East Rural ward.
There is one school in the area which is St Paul's C of E in Hoddlesden linked to St Paul's Church. In January 2005 there were 135 children on the school roll.
There is one councillor who is Coun Julie Slater and she is a Conservative.
Hoddlesden Millennium Green was created in 2000.
The millstone was erected to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee and has come to symbolise Hoddlesden Millennium Green.
The green stands on the land where the pipe works used to be situated.
The ward of East Rural has the smallest population of all the wards in the Blackburn with Darwen borough which is just under 2,000 people.
The majority of that population is concentrated to Hoddlesden village.
Shaw's of Darwen was founded in 1897 by A.G. Shaw and moved in 1908 for the local clay deposits in Waterside near Hoddlesden.
Shaw's produced glazed bricks, terracotta and faience and its expertise was used in building the Reebok Stadium.
It currently employs about 100 people.
