Your guide to Blackburn Town Centre

Blackburn town centre dates back to the bronze age.

The Doomsday book mentioned the Parish Church of St Mary's, which stood on the site of what is now Blackburn's Cathedral.

The Cathedral is situated in the centre of the town and houses a renowned collection of religious art.

The centre is currently undergoing a transformation.

Efforts are being made to attract people to live in the centre again with the building of new flats in Mincing Lane.

In October (2007) a 66m redevelopment of the shopping centre will start.

This will eventually trigger the closure of the market which will redeveloped.

Much of the shopping quarter is currently being re-paved.

There are plans for a new bus station and apartments are set to be built in the grounds of the Cathedral.

In five years time the centre will look very different from today.

Having seen the size of the shopping centre development in progress it concerns me greatly that the amount of money being banded about £66m for completion is a very small amount for this day and age.

There must some cheap materials being used here.

Its seems like something on the cheap that will probably look outdated very quickly and could become another eyesore in a very short period of time.

I'd have thought A MINIMUM of £180m would have added a little bit of class to the Mall buildings not the pitiful £66m thats being quoted.
