Blackburn College create Jubilee time capsule

A DIAMOND Jubilee inspired time caspule is being created by Blackburn College to celebrate the last 60 years.

It is appealing for people’s memories, photos and memorabilia to create a picture of the college over the last six decades.

The capsule will be buried beneath the Feilden Street building when it is demolished in August.

Principal Ian Clinton said: “The time capsule will be a great way to preserve people’s memories and moments at the college over the past 60 years as well as signal a new era.

“We’ve been investing heavily in the campus and its facilities over the past 10 years, so much so that it will almost be unrecognisable from what it looked like 60 years ago.

“We want to show future generations how far we’ve grown not only in size, but in technology and facilities.

“It will also be great to show the differences in the demographic of our past and present students. We now teach everybody, from 16-year-olds studying A-levels to an 80-year-old studying an art degree.”

The demolition of the Feilden Street building is the fourth phase of the college’s master plan to create a world-class campus.

Mr Clinton added: “We’re calling on all past and present students and staff to get in touch with anything they would like to be considered for the capsule.
