Hitchcock meets hilarious in the smash hit comedy John Buchan’s ‘The 39 Steps’at the Opera House, Manchester from April 12 to 17, 2010.
Join the dashing Richard Hannay – complete with pencil moustache and British gung-ho – as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing agents and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women in the fast-paced and wickedly funny play The 39 Steps. Newsquest Northwest has teamed up with The Opera House Manchester to promote this great competition. Enter now for your chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to the opening performance on April 12 at 7.30pm.
Maria Aitken’s production contains every legendary scene from the 1935 classic Hitchcock movie thriller, including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the sensational death-defying finale in the London Palladium, as well as the ‘stocking and suspenders scene’ considered controversial at the time of the film’s release.
“The show is a ripping yarn of a comedy that will have you laughing out loud” - Liverpool Daily Post
A cast of four fearless actors: Dugald Bruce-Lockhart (Hannay), Katherine Kingsley (Annabella/Margaret/Pamela), Dan Starkey (Man 1), Richard Brain (Man 2) - play over 139 roles in 100 minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action.
Patrick Barlow, who adapted John Buchan’s classic novel for the stage, says: “We have four very skilled actors in the show – and they need to be. Where else would they get the opportunity to run out on stage as an old lady, come off and then go back on minutes later as an underworld villain.”
The 39 Steps is now in its fourth year in the West End, where the show won the Olivier and Whatsonstage Awards for Best Comedy and in New York the Broadway version won two Tony Awards.
