THE red rose county of Lancashire was first founded in the 12th century, when new boundaries were established.

Until then some of its lands were included in the returns for both Yorkshire and Cheshire.

Centuries on it became a major commercial and industrial region during the Industrial Revolution and nowhere was this more evident than in our own pocket of East Lancashire.

The mills and collieries drew in thousands and thousands of people who were seeking work and they made our area their new home.

In the 21st century, Lancashire is home to almost one and a half million people and today we take look at some of the people who have shaped our towns by work, rest and play.
