TODAY’s look back into the archives of the Lancashire Telegraph will bring back memories for many readers.

Who remembers the pot fairs? At one time you would find them in virtually every town across the North West when a travelling army of stallholders would arrive and set out their wares at heavily discounted prices.

Many an East Lancashire dinner table groaned under the weight of plates, cups and saucers bought from these traders and, probably,m many still survive today.

Today’s picture was taken in 1988 and shows bargain hunters crowding round on the first day of the then annual fair on the open market. ‘Pitcher’ Mark Bagley drew in the crowds displaying the wares of Hallet and Sons from Stoke on Trent.
