IT'S a time of major change for Burnley in this photograph, taken from the Telegraph archives.

And it shows a mix of new and old that some townsfolk may be able to recall and point out.

Our image shows Active Way under construction, the dual carriage way created after large swathes of old Burnley were swept aside.

The road linked Westgate with Colne Road, cutting out the need fro through traffic to negotiate the town centre.

In the foreground, the roundabout at the end of Royal Road is taking shape, while in front of that is the distinctive northern light rooftop of a former cotton weaving mill - can anyone remember which it was?

As building work went on, traffic used the adjacent Bankhouse Street to negotiate its way through the area, before it was sealed off as a dead end.

Top right is the imposing tower of St Peter's Church, first built in 1122 and once the centre of town, while top centre is the old Burnley Grammar School building and left again are the windows of the former college.

What was the building top left, with the spire, which appears to be covered in scaffolding? The old Prestige works stood behind it we reckon.
