SEVEN decades and one year ago, the people of this street celebrated the end of the Second World War - together.

Just as they had looked after each other during the long years of fighting, they came together again to mark its thankful end.

The date is September 1945 and the place is Clitheroe, but there is no inkling on the back of this photograph, to say which street it was.

We do know, however, that it was taken by someone from Pye's photos of Clitheroe and it shows, from the old lady in her shawl on the extreme left to the babies in their highchairs in the centre, that young and old all celebrated peace.

There must have been more than 150 people at this particular victory party - the adults are clustered round the two long tables, groaning with goodies for the youngsters seated round.

All the mums will have baked cakes, made jellies and sandwiches and then prompted dad to carry out the furniture out on to the street.

The tables have neat table cloths and lines of bunting have been strung out across the street, from bedroom window to bedroom window.

Can you remember a victory party in your street?
