TODAY we step back in time to the days of Wearden's coach trips.

Do you remember Wearden's Coaches which was based in Bay Street, Little Harwood?

The business was first started as a coal business at the turn of the century and operated 'proper charabancs'.

At the weekends, these were then scrubbed off and had seats added, to become coaches for day trips!

Three sons, Fred, Arthur and James carried on the business until the early 1960s, when it was taken over by Farnsworth Coaches, although the Wearden name continued.

We believe this photograph is from 1948 and that the 28 grand old ladies belonged to St Stephen's Mothers' Union.

They are all wearing their best hats for their trip out and the stout shoes many will remember their grannies once wearing.

Crouching at the front right, in his white coat, is James Wearden - his son Jimmy was a driver for the firm in the fifties.

Behind him, at the back, could be Harry Harwood, who was another driver for the firm.

Do you have any other information about the ladies or the coach firm?
