A FUNDRAISING ‘battle’ between Burnley and Pendle businesses to raise money for Pendleside Hospice is about to begin.

The companies, including Tesco, West Craven Insurance services and Rotherwood Recruitment, will be given £50 to turn into as much money as possible between June 1 and September 30.

All sponsor money raised during the ‘Corporate Challenge’ will help to provide care for people who are coping with a life-limiting illness at the Reedley-based hospice.

The challenge, which ran for the first time last year, saw 26 businesses raise more than £85,000.

Fundraising suggestions include dress down days, bake sales, raffles or bag packing.

Other businesses in Pendle and Burnley have been urged to come forward and take part.

Billie Jean-Horne, community champion at Burnley’s Tesco store, said: “We had a great time taking part in the corporate Challenge last year, so we were keen to get involved again.

“We raised £5,000, and we are hoping to match or better that this year.”

A breakfast event is being held at Pendleside Hospice on March 21, at 8.30am for companies interested in signing up.

An awards event will be held in October when the winners will be announced.
