A LIGHTING company that has supplied some of the world’s most cutting-edge buildings was last night named East Lancashire’s top business.

Staff from ACDC Lighting Systems in Barrowford were the winners of the prestigious Business of the Year award at the Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards.

Judges were impressed with the firm’s rapid growth and its hold in export markets, where it has completed lighting contracts for the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai and the Cube in Moscow.

But ACDC was not the only company celebrating during a glittering night at Ewood Park in Blackburn.

Among the other winners were Darwen smart metering firm Bglobal, Nelson-based Kirk Environmental and Burnley car supermarket Motorpoint.

Lancashire Telegraph editor Kevin Young said: “Once again we enjoyed a fantastic night, with the cream of the crop from the East Lancashire business community in attendance.

“I know our judges found it difficult to choose between some superb entries, ranging from large, established businesses to small start-ups.

“And I would like to congratulate our 11 winners on their deserved success.”

Guests at last night’s event included Blackburn MP Jack Straw, Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans, High Sheriff of Lancashire and Regenerate Pennine Lancashire chairman Dennis Mendoros and TV antiques expert Eric Knowles, who delivered the after-dinner speech.

Mike Damms, chief executive of the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards have always been a key event in the calendar, and this year was no exception.

“It is great to see the best of the best celebrated with a fantastic evening.”

Last night’s event, attended by around 300 guests, was hosted by BBC North West Tonight weather presenter Dianne Oxberry.
