Retailer signs at thriving Burnley business park

AN EAST Lancashire business park is flourishing less than six months after the finishing touches were applied.

Barnfield Construction has announ-ced that Thingimijigs Ltd, which deals in toys and gifts, have bought the lease on a 5,000 sq ft unit at its recently completed Empire Business Park, in Liverpool Road, Burnley.

The online retailer is the latest firm to set up office at the park and follows on from a flurry of smaller deals at the site, which has resulted in the leases on every one of the 2,000 sq ft units being sold.

Bosses at the construction firm are now preparing to move on to the second phase, which will involve selling a number of the larger units.

The deal with Thingimijigs Ltd was agreed at the opening ceremony, attended by Clarets boss Owen Coyle in March.

Occupiers on the estate also include EFS Haulage and Karcher Power Wash-ers.

Andrew Peak, of Petty’s Chartered Surveyors, said the early success of the park bodes well for the future of the town. He added: “Recent occupier activity in the Burnley area has been very encouraging and the spate of deals already completed, shows confidence in the product Barnfield Construction has produced.

“With seven units either sold or let, almost half the site is now under offer with units still remaining from 3,000 sq ft upwards.”

Empire Business Park is close to both junctions 10 and 11 of the M65. It still has units available for sale or to let from 3,000 to 15,000 sq ft, with excellent parking and loading facilities.

Jonathan Wolstencroft, Barnfield’s asset development manager, said: “We are committed to carrying out high quality developments and taking an ongoing interest in occupiers' needs.

“As these recent deals demonstrate our approach is undoubtedly successful.”

Are these rents and rates subsidised? If so not much good for Burnley as in the past companies have taken advantage of cheaper ingoing and then hopped out to another cheaper area when their subsidy finishes. ???
