THREE anglers and budding entrepreneurs are hoping some suppliers will take the bait at a big trade show this weekend.

David Bailey, Ian Stones and Mark Potter are set to launch a new flavour of their highly successful brand of bait enticer, Stinky Stuff, which is used by top anglers across the UK, Europe and the USA, at the Northern Angling Show at Event City, Manchester.

It is distributed through their company, Fishing Baits Ltd which has its head office in Darwen.

One of Stinky Stuff’s founders, Mr Bailey, a keen amateur angler, was inspired to come up with a unique product for the fishing industry.

Working with other anglers he initially looked at bringing out new flavours of boilies or pellets but having seen that this market was already saturated, he then began to notice that the big names in the sport preferred to use sticky baits.

The answer therefore came to him in the form of spray bait delivered from an aerosol can which when applied to the bait, attracted the fish with smells that replicated various foodstuffs.

Having come up with the product concept, the three owners then set about developing the range working with a chemist to experiment with different flavours and smells.

He said: “It was crucial to make the formulation aquatically safe and find something that triggered a fish to find the food source. We tested rigorously using a small team of anglers to find out which smells and flavours attracted fish to their bait.

On the back of the Original flavour, many more flavours have been brought to market by the company. They now have Peeler Crab, Crayfish, Krill, Bubblegum Cream and Vanilla Peanut Cream in the Stinky Stuff range.

David said: "The success rate of anglers using Stinky Stuff has been magnificent and the feedback superb. We currently sell throughout the UK and to all countries in Europe. We continue to have a small dedicated team of anglers that test for us."
