How’s your luck? Rosemere Cancer Foundation is hoping its luck will be in come this Friday, October 13th, by having a bumper number of families sign up to its Walk the Lights event.

This year’s Walk the Lights, the charity’s annual jaunt along Blackpool Prom through the town’s iconic Illuminations, is raising funds for its 20 Years Anniversary Appeal.

The £1.5 million appeal launched in March to fund a trio of ground breaking projects at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Rosemere Cancer Centre. The centre, which is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its opening, is Lancashire’s and South Cumbria’s specialist cancer treatment centre, providing all local radiotherapy among other specialist care.

Dan Hill, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s head of fundraising, said: “Last year, we had just under 400 people take part, which was the most we have ever had in the walk’s four year history. I know some would say holding this year’s walk on Friday 13th is chancing our luck but with it being such a special year for Rosemere Cancer Centre, we are hoping fortune will smile on us and we have even more people join us for what is essentially a fun family evening out.

“There are no time pressures on walkers so if anyone wants to stop for fish and chips as they meander along or visit the piers or arcades, it’s fine. Alternatively, if they want to speed walk, that’s also good.”

As in previous years, Walk the Lights walkers are asked to set off between 7 pm and 7-30 pm from the Illuminations’ start point in Bispham , where this year, the Radio Wave stage truck will be parked to ensure participants have a good send off!

The route follows the Prom to finish at Starr Gate. Walkers will be then directed to a nearby hall for free refreshments.

Walk the Light entry is £5 per person. Sign up by logging on to www.rosemere.org.uk
