A BURNLEY firm has been shortlisted for a top award.

The Calico Group, based at Centenary Court in Croft Street, has been shortlisted for team of the year at the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development People Management Awards.

The company has been hailed for its human-resources service including payroll, employee relations, recruitment, health and safety, and wellbeing.

Calico — a collection of charities and businesses working together to make social profit, rather than financial profit — has been named one of the top 100 companies to work for this year.

It owns and manages 4,600 homes in Lancashire and offers employability initiatives. Its Safenet service provides help for the victims of domestic violence and abuse, its Acorn Recovery Project helps addicts with drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and the Ring Stones Maintenance & Construction limited-liability partnership undertakes maintenance and housebuilding contracts.

Kay Atwood, head of human resources, said: “We believe that focusing on employee strengths and promoting high levels of employee engagement will drive improvements to overall performance and increase customer satisfaction.

“It is pleasing to see that this effort, and The Calico Group as a whole, is being recognised and we look forward to the winner being announced.”

Calico is facing competition from fellow finalists the Commonwealth Secretariat, Islamic Relief Worldwide and Que- en’s Cross Housing Associat- ion.

Winners will be announced at a dinner on September 29 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
