BLACKBURN College is to host a series of seminars designed to help local business owners and students.

They will give attendees a chance to hear some of the tricks of the trade from specialists as people are handed advice on how to flourish in business.

The seminars follow the success of an event which looked at how investing in training can help employers to grow their business,.

It included talks by Kirsty Henshaw, creator of a range of gluten-free, dairy-free and wheat-free ready meals, Ian Clark, group finance director of Kukri sportswear and Mark Bannister, learning and development manager at Crown Paints.

The trio shared their experiences with business owners and students, discussing issues including workplace culture, employee engagement and how to help staff achieve their potential.

Janine Smith, commercial training manager at Blackburn College, said: “We’re delighted with the success of the event.

“Kirsty, Ian and Mark provided a great insight into the importance of training as a way of improving employee satisfaction and investing in business.

“The feedback we’ve had from the business owners and students who attended the event shows there’s a real appetite for this kind of seminar.”

The college is now planning to hold further seminars for students and business owners, covering issues including accountancy, management, human resources and procurement.

It’s hoped key speakers from industry bodies including the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the Institute of Leadership and Management and the Chartered Management Institute will give talks at the events.

The first in the series of seminars will be held at the college on July 8.
