AN EAST Lancashire-based construction firm has had a record-breaking April after securing four multi-million pound projects in one week.

Barnfield Construction, which has its headquarters at Lomeshaye Industrial Estate in Nelson, said that the deals will increase projected 2015 turnover of £60 million to £72 million.

Barnfield boss Tim Webber said the contracts show an increasing improvement in the sector and showed that the firm was ‘starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel’.

The firm has agreed a contract with BCW to refurbish an additional 30,000 sq ft of industrial space for them at the former Michelin Tyre factory site at Innovation Drive in Burnley.

At Barnfield’s latest business park in Salford, Solomon Commercial has committed to the first 20,000 sq ft plot at Agecroft Commercial Park that Barnfield recently purchased for development from HCA.

The investment will be split into four industrial units from 4,000 sq ft and the space will be available to let later this year.

Building on their tendering side of the business, Barnfield has submitted a successful bid to Trilanco.

Work will start in summer developing a £5.5 million, 100,000 sq ft distribution centre with three-storey offices in Kirkham.

While Barnfield also won a £1.3 million contract to build their second Home Bargains Store in Liverpoolo.

Tim Webber, chairman and managing director of Barnfield Construction, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the four contract wins.

“ We have seen a big upturn in activity after the last six to seven years of difficult market conditions. We’re definitely starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
